Our Background
The Muslim Women’s Welfare Association (MWWA) was founded in 1987 by local women concerned about the lack of support available for Muslim Women and their families in Redbridge and neighbouring areas.
The issues which prompted the creation of MWWA remain equally relevant today. Many Asian women lead very isolated lives and have very few opportunities to develop and be included as a valued member of the community.
MWWA has run a number of successful projects which have included ESOL classes, dressmaking, computer classes, parenting skills programme, Yoga and keep fit activities and many others. These are run in several venues across East London to reach out women in their local areas. These are open to all women, regardless of faith, colour or creed. Services are used by women from a variety of faith groups.
MWWA has also developed special projects to contribute towards greater inter-cultural understanding, building on skills and talents of our services users.
In 2014 MWWA developed two further activities:
-
Introducing Yoga Instructor Training and then forming more Yoga groups operating at different venues to reach the wider community.
-
The ladies Social Club commenced to support women of all ages to give them a platform where they can come and socialize and make friends. It particularly helps women who are isolated, depressed and would like to get involved in their local community's activities. We arrange health talks to improve women's health which will impact in forming a healthy community.
Our organistion offers community cohesion, inclusion and integration.
Our Goal
MMWA's aims and objectives are to organize and promote educational and cultural activities for all women and young girls. Furthermore, we provide a signposting services to the community. We facilitate a weekly ladies drop-in services for the elderly, isolated and disabled in the Redbridge and neighboring areas.
